Call Me Kiwi
Organised by Renee Hollis, this book is the result of a National photographic competition to promote New Zealand photographers, and celebrate our uniqueness as Kiwis.
I was delighted to be placed second with a photograph I took of Mark Inglis in Hanmer before his ascent of Mt Everest, for an article on “a day in the life” published in North and South magazine. An inspirational day!
I had seven other photographs published, of subjects ranging from celebrities to family and friends. It was an honour to be involved with Call Me Kiwi, which followed its predecessor, Aroha Love.
Aroha Photography Book
Aroha Love
Organised by Renee Hollis in 2008, Aroha Love is a book resulting from a National photographic competition to celebrate the uniqueness of New Zealanders. Given the theme “love and relationships”, a panel of judges chose the best 200 photos from 3,000 entries.
I was thrilled to be invited to submit samples of my work, and have ten images published.
M.I.L.K. collection of books
M.I.L.K. stands for “Moments of Intimacy of Laughter and Kinship”. A series of three books were published, under the titles Love, Family and Friendship.
This image was chosen for the Love book, and I consider it the highlight of my career to date. It shows my nephew James hugging his dad – Drew, and encapsulates their love for each other.
Photos for the books were chosen after an epic global search for 300 extraordinary and geographically diverse images. Over 40,000 photographs were submitted, by 17,000 photographers, from a staggering 164 countries.
With renowned photographer Elliot Erwin as the Chair of a panel of judges, the M.I.L.K. competition was conceived to attract work from leading photographers from as many countries as possible. The 300 chosen images were exhibited in New York, and while sadly I could not attend, I am proud to add to my name that I am an International Award-winning photographer.
