Editorial

My editorial/commercial images have been published in magazines, books and competitions such as North and South, Next, Avenues, Sunday Star Times and Metropol, among others.

I love the freedom and creativity these assignments bring, and the interaction that I have with my subjects.

I have photographed my most controversial image after the September 2010 earthquake. I wandered through Sydenham to view the damage, and came across the infamous Churchill’s Tavern that was totally in ruins. There I spotted Maya sitting among the bricks with her parents watching on.

I asked permission to photograph Maya and submitted this to Sunday Star Times. I was told the photo made the front page because it has a human element to it, after hundreds of images solely of wrecked buildings.

Well – the publicity this image caused was incredible!  This image went on to be used by Save the Children Fund in a television advertisement.

The experience reminds me and my camera to stay alert for opportunities, always!
